Police body camera video captured the dramatic rescue of two people whose raft capsized, tossing them into the churning waters below a dam in Iowa’s Des Moines River.
Des Moines police arrived at the Scott Street Bridge around 9:30 p.m. Monday to investigate reports of people yelling for “help.”
Officers found a man and a woman trapped in the dam, struggling to keep their heads above the rushing water.
Officers, assisted by an anonymous good samaritan, quickly entered the river and began rescue efforts. Through teamwork and determination, they were able to pull both victims from the river.
The victims, a 44 year old male and a 50 year old female, were transported to a local hospital where they were treated and released.
As for the officers involved, the department said they “dried off, and went back to work.”
